The Yogas of Vedic Astrology Introduction
We have all heard about Yogas for:
- Health
- Wealth
- Disease
- Poverty
- Marriage
- Status
And often astrologers make assessments about these Yogas that do not give their results. Or sometimes astrologers are surprised to see success in a person’s chart that do not have the obvious Yogas. This can be related to the philosophical and mathematical principles as shared in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, which we will be covering in this course. These principles reveal:
- Is there a block or obstacle to the yoga manifesting?
- Which is stronger, the Yoga manifester or the yoga breaker?
- Which planets produce Yogas for a given sign?
- Which planets block Yogas for a given sign?
- How strong are the good Yogas fundamentally?
- How strong are the difficult Yogas fundamentally?
In Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, there are helpful calculations to aid an astrologer in determining the potential of a Yoga. These revolve around the calculations of Ishta/Kashta, Subha/Asubha, Planetary Dignity and Shadbala. Through the last five courses of this Apprenticeship Program, we have been exploring and building upon these principles to enable us to intimately understand how the puzzle pieces of Yoga Assessment fit together.
Simply having a Yoga means very little. In the same way, someone can have a fancy, high-quality, expensive musical instrument and not know how to play it. Digging into the fundamental building blocks of a Yoga’s power allows the astrologer to recognize the degree of proficiency and expression the Yogas within a chart will bring to the native’s life.
